Cincinnati Reds not likely to place Aroldis Chapman on 60-day disabled list

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

As electric closer Aroldis Chapman works his way back from a frightening incident this week in which he took a line drive to the face, he likely faces a slow and cautious road back to a big league mound.

The initial timetable for Chapmans return indicated that he could be ready to pitch again in game action in four to six weeks. As for how the team will maneuver things on the roster, for now John Fay reports manager Bryan Price said that the Reds are not likely to place Chapman on the 60-day disabled list.

This decision seems to indicate that the Reds intend to at least leave the door cracked open if Chapman is able to return sooner than expected.

The Reds are understandably a little uneasy about discussing these seemingly trivial matters with the visual of what happened still fresh in their minds. They certainly will not rush Chapman back into action, but this tidbit from Price does seem to confirm that the team is hoping that he wont be forced to miss the majority of the 2014 season.

About the Author

As a kid, I once crouched down like a catcher, held a colander over my face, and declared: "I am Damon Berryhill." I think most people would find that to be an early sign of an obsession with the game, if not a somewhat peculiar taste when it came to picking a favorite player. I was born and raised in Colorado Springs and now live in Rochester, Minnesota. I have been with Fansided since November of 2011.
